Fun Indoor Activities For Kids During This Pandemic Crisis

While we all prefer getting fresh air and sunshine, sometimes you just get stuck inside. Whether it’s due to unexpected school closure, bad weather, or some other reason like the pandemic, for instance, once the kids are indoors, they can easily get cabin fever if you don’t have anything ready for them.

We have collected a few of our list of favorite indoor activities for kids as a starting point. As we settled this list together, we tried to round up indoor activities for every type of kid. If they are the artsy type, we have DIY projects and crafts. Are they into baking? We have an activity for that too (and, bonus, you can also get to eat whatever they bake). For a portion of a mental boost, we have included our favorite jigsaw puzzles and word games, too. And, when they are all exhausted from the activities mentioned above, they can always enjoy a good rest in their indoor camp.

DIY Projects And Crafts

Time to bring out all your paper places, markers, paint, glue, and whatever you have around the house and let the kids explore the world of art. When the kids are done, take the 2D works of art and hang them using a string or baker’s twine with clothespins, or display the 3D works on shelves, and you can now host your very own first pop-up art gallery.

Make Or Bake And Decorate

Indoor days are the best and perfect time to try and be creative in the kitchen. Whip up some kind of make-or-bake-your-own dessert by putting out toppings (sprinkles, frosting, M&Ms, etc.) that kids can add to either cupcakes or ice cream sundaes.

Leave Out Your Favorite Jigsaw Puzzle

Jigsaw puzzles are another great activity not just for kids but for the entire family because anyone can do them on their schedules. Just leave your jigsaw puzzle out on the table, and the family can float by and start fitting in a few new pieces whenever they have a few moments to spare. Plus, studies show that puzzles improve cooperation and collaboration skills.

Do Word Games

It’s absurd to believe that Mad Libs have been around for so long, and kids still get a kick out of them. If you don’t like stocking up on this game, you can always play some kind of exquisite corpse game: The first person writes an opening sentence to a story. The next player gets to add the second sentence. The third person adds the next line but is only permitted to see the second player’s sentence. So technically, each player will get a chance to add a line while only looking at one preceding sentence until the story ends, which usually makes no sense at all.

Camping Indoors

Whether it’s forts made of pillows and blankets or pop-up tents, you can approximate the camping experience without having to deal with mud or annoying mosquitoes. Don’t forget to make s’mores (or at least pretend to make s’mores with Fisher-Price’s pretend camping set).
